Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
weektake (“we”, “us”) runs this website. We built it so you can share a one-line take without an account. This policy explains what little we collect, what advertising partners may collect, and your choices.
What we collect
- What you submit. The sentences you build, the sentences you repeat with “Me too”, and any text you type into an “Other…” box. Submissions are published only in aggregate or as anonymous takes. Please don’t type personal information into them.
- An anonymous session cookie (
wt_sid): a random identifier, kept up to 400 days, that ties your own submissions together so we can show your weekly recap and the tools you named before, and let you add to or undo a sentence for a few minutes after you send it. It contains no name, email or device fingerprint. After about a month, we cut the link between your sentences and this identifier. - A “your tools” cookie (
wt_mine), only if you tap “Add to your tools” or a tool under “Pick your tools”. It holds the names of those tools (up to 8) and nothing else — no identifier, no count. We use it only to show those tools on your home page. Delete it any time by clearing your cookies or tapping “Remove”. - A one-way hash of your IP address. We use your IP address only to cap repeated submissions of the same tool and verb (spam protection). We store a keyed, one-way hash of it — never the address itself — and we delete the hash after 8 days.
- Standard server logs. Our hosting provider automatically records technical data such as IP address, browser type and pages requested to operate and secure the service.
- Visit counts. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and where visitors came from (the referring site and any campaign tag in the link). It sets no cookies and does not track you across other sites.
We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, precise location or any account credentials, and we do not collect sensitive personal information.
How we use it
- To count takes and show trend boards, recaps and columns.
- To see how many people visit and where they come from.
- To prevent spam and abuse.
- To keep the site running, debug problems and keep it secure.
- To show advertising that helps pay for the site (see below).
Advertising and third-party cookies
We may show ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits.
- Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- Opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings.
- Opt out of personalized advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info (US) or youradchoices.ca (Canada).
Where the law requires consent (for example, visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland), a consent message from Google-certified consent software appears before personalized ads are shown.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only with:
- Service providers that host the site and database and count visits for us, under contracts that limit their use of the data.
- Advertising partners such as Google, which receive cookie identifiers and device data through their own cookies as described above. Under some US state laws this counts as “selling” or “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Authorities, when required by law or to protect our rights and users’ safety.
Your privacy choices
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. You can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising at any time:
- Turn on Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser. We treat a GPC signal as a valid opt-out and request only non-personalized ads for that browser.
- Use the privacy options message shown on this site where available, or the Google and industry opt-out links above.
- Email us at moasonnetwork@gmail.com with the subject “Do Not Sell or Share”.
Do Not Track. There is no common standard for “Do Not Track” browser signals, so we do not respond to them. We do honor GPC as described above.
Cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without the session cookie, but you won’t see your personal recap.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, other US states with privacy laws, and Canada — you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we hold about you and access it;
- correct or delete it;
- opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising;
- appeal our decision on your request; and
- not be treated differently for exercising these rights.
To make a request, email moasonnetwork@gmail.com. Because we don’t collect names or email addresses, we may need your session identifier or the exact text of a submission to find your data; we will never ask for more information than we need to verify the request. You may use an authorized agent. We respond within the time limits your law sets (generally 30–45 days). Canadian residents may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Retention
Sentences are kept as long as the site runs, because weekly pages show past weeks. Hashed IP values are deleted after 8 days. After about a month, a sentence can no longer be tied to your browser — it stays only as an anonymous sentence in that week — so after that we can no longer find or delete it for you. Before then you can ask us to delete your sentences at any time. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period under its own policy.
Children
weektake is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where data is processed
Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. By using the site you understand your information may be transferred there, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store IP addresses only as keyed hashes, and limit access to the database. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
